Why Moms (Like Me) Burn Out During the Holidays — And How I Stay Grounded When Life Gets Busy

If you’ve ever wondered why you feel so overwhelmed in December…..

The holidays for moms means - more decisions, more schedules, and more logistics than any person can handle! And that’s exactly why I’ve shifted how I move through this season.

Instead of trying to keep up with unrealistic expectations, I focus on the small, grounding habits that make me feel like me again.

So here are the five habits that help me stay steady when life gets busy — especially in December.

1. Water, Movement, Protein (In That Order)

Not complicated. Not aesthetic. Not time-consuming.

Just the three things that bring me back into my body when the day already feels loud.

  • Water first

  • 30 minutes of movement in the morning

  • Protein early and often

When my basics are stable, I’m more stable.

2. Eating Whole Foods More Often

I’m not trying to be perfect during the holidays — I’m trying to stay consistent.

When my meals include whole foods, fiber, and protein, I have more energy, fewer cravings, and a steadier mood. The holidays feel less chaotic when my blood sugar isn’t on a rollercoaster.

3. Sunday Reset (The Simple Kind)

Not a Pinterest project.

Just one thing:

On Sundays, I restock my fridge and pantry with foods that align with my goals.

Nothing fancy. Just making sure what’s in my home supports the life I’m trying to build.

4. Being Ready to Say “No” (Respectfully)

No scripts.

Just the confidence to say:

“That doesn’t work for me right now.”

Protecting your energy is allowed — especially this time of year.

5. Time With God

This one matters most.

When I slow down enough to pray, read scripture, or just sit with Him quietly, everything else stops feeling so heavy. God recenters me when life is loud. He reminds me what truly matters.

This is the grounding I come back to again and again.

If you’re feeling stretched thin right now… you’re not failing.

You’re carrying a lot. And you’re doing it with a full heart.

Start with one habit from this list.

Let it support you.

Let it steady you.

Small consistency changes everything — especially in the busiest season of the year.
