Walking Is Great. But It’s Not Enough.
I know walking gets recommended for everything.
And to be clear, I love walking.
Walking helps with:
stress
blood sugar
energy
digestion
mood
daily movement
It is one of the easiest habits for busy moms to build.
But if your goal is:
body recomposition
building metabolism
preserving muscle
aging well
walking alone is not enough.
A lot of women are relying on walking as their only form of exercise and wondering why their body is not changing the way they want.
Here’s why:
Walking is great for general health.
It is not enough stimulus to build significant muscle.
And muscle is what helps support:
metabolism
strength
function
healthy aging
better body composition
That means if walking is all you are doing, it is time to add resistance training.
That does not mean you need a complicated gym routine.
It can look like:
dumbbells at home
bodyweight exercises
resistance bands
beginner strength sessions
short focused workouts a few times a week
You do not need perfect.
You need enough resistance to tell your body:
“Keep this muscle. Build more if you can.”
That message matters.
Especially in midlife.
Because losing muscle while getting older is a terrible trade.
I want women thinking beyond calories burned in a workout.
I want them thinking about what their workouts are teaching their body to become.
Walking teaches your body to be active.
Strength training teaches your body to be strong.
You need both.
And if you are a busy mom with limited time, strength training is one of the highest-return things you can do.
Walk daily.
Lift regularly.
Do both.
That combo works a whole lot better than cardio plus under-eating ever will.
