The Non-Negotiables That Changed My Health as a Busy Mom (Part 4): I Don’t Drink My Calories

Why Liquid Calories Are a Hard No for Me

Liquid calories are one of the fastest ways to stall progress.

For busy moms trying to lose weight or stay consistent, this matters more than people realize.

I’m talking about:

  • Sodas

  • Juices

  • Specialty coffees with 400+ calories and 50g of sugar

These calories add up quickly and do nothing for you.

They don’t nourish you.

They don’t keep you full.

They don’t support fat loss.

What Liquid Calories Actually Do

Liquid calories don’t register in the body the same way solid foods do.

Because they require little digestion and no chewing:

  • They bypass normal fullness signals

  • They digest quickly

  • They don’t create satiety

So you can consume hundreds of calories and still feel hungry shortly after.

That’s the problem.

What I Do Instead

This is what works for me:

  • I eat my calories instead of drinking them

  • I prioritize protein and fiber so meals actually fill me up

  • I keep coffee and other drinks simple

  • I choose water and electrolytes most of the day

I want my calories to:

  • Slow digestion

  • Control hunger

  • Support my goals

If a calorie isn’t doing that, I don’t need it.

The Takeaway

Liquid calories are a no for me because they add up fast and give me nothing in return.

Pay attention to what you’re drinking NOW.
